Sumo Logic

Can local file collection use symlink file names

The expected behavior for Sumo Logic is to use the canonical path for symbolic links, also known as symlinks. This prevents duplication of log data if a file has multiple links. We always resolve the symlink to the target.

Problem

How do I get a Sumo Logic to display the symbolic link, or symlink, file name as the _sourceName instead of the target file name of that symlink?  For example, I have the following symlink:

my_meaningful_logname.log --> random_file_name.log

 The target file name with my actual data content is random_file_name.log but the symlink is named my_meaningful_logname.log. I want the _sourceName metadata to show up with the symlink name,my_meaningful_logname.log

Can I get Sumo Logic to point to that symlink instead of the target?

Answer

No. The expected behavior for Sumo Logic is to use the canonical path for symlinks. This prevents duplication of log data if a file has multiple links. We always resolve the symlink to the target.
