Tutorial Step 9: The Library and Sumo Logic Apps (deprecated)

The Sumo Logic Library is a central location for saved and shared content in your account, as well as content shared by others in your organization.

Here you can save searches and Dashboards, as well as favorites, and install Sumo Logic Apps.

To the left, you’ll see a number of tabs.

  1. The Recent tab lists all currently running searches and any searches performed over the last three hours. Pinned Searches are also displayed under the Recent tab.
  2. Favorites displays searches and Dashboards that you "favorite" by marking with a star to keep handy. Currently, we don’t have any Favorited content, but this is a useful feature when you have a lot of saved content in the Library.
  3. The Personal folder is the default folder in the Library. Content stored in the Personal folder is private until a user shares content.
  4. Content in the Org folder is shared with all users across an organization’s account.
  5. The Apps folder is the home for Sumo Logic Applications, which are out-of-the box Dashboards and searches created by Sumo Logic for many use cases. Sumo Logic Apps are available for many popular data sources like Active Directory, Amazon, and IIS. Select an App for your data source and install directly from the Library. They are installed into your Personal folder by default. All available Sumo Logic Applications are fully documented in Help.
  6. Currently, in the Personal folder, the first folder is called Apache. This is the Sumo Logic App for Apache, which was installed automatically by the Setup Wizard when you uploaded theapache_access.csv log file. Click the Apache folder to view the contents.
  7. Here is a list of preconfigured Dashboards and searches provided by the App. They are a great resource when you are learning to build queries. You can also save a copy of a Dashboard or search and edit it to customize for your use case.
  8. Click Apache - Overview to launch the Dashboard.
  9. Here you can see that we have data from our sample log file to display in the Visitor Locations Panel and the Traffic Distributions by Server Panel, but not the others. When you install and configure the Sumo Logic App with live streaming logs, all Panels that you have data for will be filled.
  10. In the Visitor Locations Panel, click Show in Search to view the query on the Search page.
  11. Back on the Search page, you can view the geo lookup query that displays visitor’s IP addresses on a map of the word.

So this takes us full circle, from building a query and a Dashboard, to using pre-configured queries and Dashboards in an installed Sumo Logic App. This tutorial has merely scratched the surface of Sumo Logic's many features and possibilities. For a list of more resources, see the next section.
