Install the Google Kubernetes Engine App and View the Dashboards

Install the Sumo Logic App

Now that you have set up collection for Google Kubernetes Engine, install the Sumo Logic App to use the pre-configured searches and dashboards that provide visibility into your environment for real-time analysis of overall usage.

To install the app:

Locate and install the app you need from the App Catalog. If you want to see a preview of the dashboards included with the app before installing, click Preview Dashboards.

  1. From the App Catalog, search for and select the app. 
  2. To install the app, click Add to Library and complete the following fields.
    1. App Name. You can retain the existing name, or enter a name of your choice for the app.

    2. Data Source. Select either of these options for the data source.

      • Choose Source Category, and select a source category from the list.

      • Choose Enter a Custom Data Filter, and enter a custom source category beginning with an underscore. Example: (_sourceCategory=MyCategory).

    3. Advanced. Select the Location in Library (the default is the Personal folder in the library), or click New Folder to add a new folder.
    4. Click Add to Library.

Once an app is installed, it will appear in your Personal folder, or other folder that you specified. From here, you can share it with your organization. See Welcome to the New Library for information on working with the library in the new UI.

Panels will start to fill automatically. It's important to note that each panel slowly fills with data matching the time range query and received since the panel was created. Results won't immediately be available, but with a bit of time, you'll see full graphs and maps.

Google Kubernetes Engine - Overview

See an overview of Kubernetes events, errors and activity, including events and errors over time, events by cluster, and top clusters by events.

Events by Cluster Over Time. Shows trends in events by cluster in the last 24 hours on a line graph.

Events and Errors Over Time. Shows trends in events and errors in the last 24 hours on a line graph. It also shows the number of events and errors in the last 24 hours on a vertical column graph.

Top Clusters by Events. Shows a table with top clusters based on events in the last 24 hours.

Events by Type Over Time. Shows the number of events by type over time in the last 24 hours on a vertical column graph.

Recent Cluster Activity. Shows a table with recent cluster activity in the last 3 hours.

Events by Cluster. Shows the number of events by cluster in the last 24 hours on a horizontal column chart.

Google Kubernetes Engine - Node

See node-level information about Kubernetes events, errors, pod scheduling, and created and killed resources.

Events by Node Over Time. Shows trends in events by node over time in the last 24 hours on a line graph.

Events by Node. Shows the number of events by node in the last 24 hours on a horizontal column chart.

Top Nodes by Events. Shows a table with top nodes based on events in the last 24 hours.

Scheduled Pods by Node Over Time. Shows the number of scheduled pods by node over time in the last 24 hours on a vertical column graph.

Recent Scheduled Pods by Node. Shows a table with recently scheduled pods by nodes in the last 24 hours.

Created Resources by Node Over Time. Shows trends in created resources by node in the last hours on a line graph.

Top Nodes by Created. Shows a table with top nodes created in the last 24 hours.

Killing Resources by Node Over Time. Shows trends in killed resources by node in the last hours on a line graph.

Top Nodes by Killing. Shows a table with top nodes killed in the last 24 hours.

Errors by Node Over Time. Shows trends in erros by node over time in the last 24 hour on a line graph.

Nodes by Errors. Shows a table with nodes based on errors in the last 24 hours.

Google Kubernetes Engine - Pod

See pod-level information, including number of pods, pod events and failures, and pod scheduling.

Pod Lifecycle Over Time. Shows the number of pods created and deleted every hour in the past 24 hours on a column graph. 

Recent Pod Activity. Shows a table with recent pod activity over the last 24 hours.

Container Events. Shows the number of container events in the last 24 hours on a vertical column graph.

Latest Status by Pod. Shows a table with the latest statuses by pod in the last 24 hours.

Container Events per Pod. Shows the number of container events per pod in the last 24 hours on a horizontal column graph.

Number of Pods. Shows the number of active pods.

Pod Events. Shows the number of pod events that failed to sync, backed off, was created, started, or pulled in a pie chart.

Pod Failure Events. Shows the number of pod failure events that failed to sync or backed off on a pie chart.

Pod Failure Events Over Time. Shows the trend in pod failure events over time in the last 24 hours on a line graph.

Top 10 Problematic Pods. Shows top 10 problematic pods and their respective number of events on a vertical column chart.

Recent Scheduled Pods. Shows a table with recently scheduled pods in the last 24 hours.

Scheduled Pods Over Time. Shows the number of scheduled pods over time in the last 24 hours on a vertical column chart.

Google Kubernetes Engine - Severity

See information about Kubernetes severity messages, including emergency, alert, critical, error, and warning messages over time.   

Severe Message Count Last Hour. Shows the number of severe message count in the last 60 minutes on a vertical column graph.

Severe Messages per Project. Shows the number of severe messages per project in the last 24 hours on a horizontal column graph.

Emergency Messages Over Time. Shows trends in emergency messages over time in the last 60 minutes on a line graph with threshold.

Alert Messages Over Time. Shows trends in alert messages over time in the last 60 minutes on a line graph with threshold.

Critical Messages Over Time. Shows trends in critical messages over time in the last 60 minutes on a line graph with threshold.

Error Messages Over Time. Shows trends in error messages over time in the last 60 minutes on a line graph with threshold.

Recent Emergency Messages. Shows a table with recent emergency messages over the last 24 hours.

Recent Alert Messages. Shows a table with recent alert messages over the last 24 hours.

Recent Critical Messages. Shows a table with recent critical messages over the last 24 hours.

Recent Error Messages. Shows a table with recent error messages over the last 24 hours.

Warning Messages Over Time. Shows trends in warning messages over time in the last 60 minutes on a line graph with threshold.

Recent Warning Messages. Shows a table with recent warning messages over the last 24 hours.
